. Friday, June 6, 2008

If you are using a Windows Vista computer and face Windows Explorer freezing(not respond) problem frequently, then this article might help you to solve this issue.

Windows Vista has built-in support for managing zip and compressed files.This built in compressed file support, can easily create, extract, browse through zip files without any third party application, which is a good feature of Windows Vista but this good feature can give you sometimes troubles if you are working with large zip files and other compressed files.

Actually this Windows Explorer freezing or not responding problem has been faced by lots of Windows Vista users.Windows Vista explorer freezes or starts consuming 100% CPU resources while opening a large zip file or opening a folder containing a large size zip file.

To fix Windows Explorer freezing or not responding problem, you’ll have to disable the built-in zip support in Windows Vista using a registry tweak:

For the Windows Vista registry tweak first load the Windows registry editor by enter regedit to the Run box (Press WINDOWS KEY + R to access the run menu) or in the instant search box in the Windows vista start menu and then hit Enter.Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID

Under this registry key, delete following 2 keys:

{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}
{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262}

Restart your computer and see that your Windows Explorer freezing problem should be fixed. You can use third party applications like Winrar,7-Zip,Winzip for Windows Vista to open, create, extract zip files.
